4 Reasons to Love Mini Size Beauty Products & the Minis I Love Best
Hey Friends! Was anybody else in need of a little distraction yesterday? I decided to take advantage of the twice yearly sale going on right now at Sephora to get a little holiday shopping done. I thought I would take the opportunity to share what made it into my cart and chat about my love of minis for a minute.
1. Minis make great gifts
I stock up on minis this time of year because they can make great stocking stuffers or holiday gifts. They are the perfect price point for gift exchanges with a dollar limit. Gather several minis together for a fun beauty themed gift. Buy packs of multiple minis to break apart and distribute among teachers and co-workers.
2. Minis allow you to try new products
Minis make it easier to try new products without spending a fortune. I often want to try a product after a friend’s recommendation or reading a review in a magazine. Full size beauty products can be pricey and a mini is available for a fraction of the cost. Another bonus is that I’m not stuck wit h
3. Minis cause less waste
Most make-up expires after 1-2 years and mascara only lasts 3 months! I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time making my way through an entire container in such a short time…especially if you rotate between several different shades of eyeshadow, blush and lipstick. A mini mascara is the perfect size to use for the time prescribed and not risk exposing yourself to infection.
4. Minis make travel easier
You can find many of your favorite products available in mini sizes (especially around the holiday). Keeping a travel case packed with minis allows for easier packing and the knowledge that everything is TSA approved. I prefer being able to continue using the products I love rather than gambling on hotel shampoo or a travel size drug store item I don’t know how I’ll react to using. Sephora, Ulta, and Nordstrom will often give you a choice of samples to try when you check out. I always try and choose a product I already use so that I can add it to my travel collection.
Tip: Ask your dermatologist, hair stylist or local beauty supply store if they can give you a sample along with your full sized purchase. They are provided with samples from their supplier and will give them to you at no additional cost. A sample size serum will last for an entire weekend away and you won’t have to worry about breaking your full size bottle or having to transfer it to a separate container yourself.
My Favorite Minis
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Mini I love how seamlessly this concealer blends with my skin and completely covers my dark circles. I tried the mini when I was first searching for a new concealer last year. I quickly graduated to the full size because it is one of the few products I use daily without fail. Now I stash the mini in my travel bag.
LANEIGE Dream & Wonder Gift Set I have been using this lip mask nightly for two years now. It lasts the entire night and doesn’t cause my lips to feel waxy or gummy. I still have my very first full size container. I purchased a couple of these gift sets last year to divide between my children’s teachers and give as girlfriend gifts. This limited time set is the only time you will find the mini lip mask available for purchase. FYI: This set sold out quickly last year.
Tip: Nestle a container of Laniege lip sleeping mask in a cellophane bag with paper shred, a pretty bow and attach a tag that says “We Wish You A Merry KISSmas!
Fresh Sugar Lip Moisturizing Trio I received this lip balm as a gift and liked it so much that I now buy it exclusively. It received the Good Housekeeping 2020 award as being the best anti-aging lip balm because it helped to visibly smooth lines on testers after 4 weeks. Another bonus is that it includes SPF and is available in color to give your lips a little tint.
MILK MAKEUP Mini Lip + Cheek This was my free Birthday gift at Sephora last year. I had always been intimidated by cream blush, but found this to be fool-proof. It was my go-to blush over the summer when I tend to only wear tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. It kept my skin looking dewy and added the perfect amount of flush. The mini size lip +cheek in werk has been part of my daily routine for the past 4 months and have yet to run out. I was thrilled to find that the mini size was available again as a complimentary birthday gift this year. I promptly tucked it away in my travel bag so that I won’t forget it on my next getaway. The fact that it doubles as lip color is a plus when trying to pack light.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel Mini This clear gel keeps my unruly brows in place on a daily basis. I use it alone on days that I’m wearing minimal make-up and layer it over eye pencil or shadow when I am wearing a full face of make-up.
TOCCA Florence Petits Trésors Set This is one of the gifts I just love to give girlfriends most! Rich hand cream and the most amazing scented candle and Eau de Parfum with notes of bergamot, pear and gardenia is the ultimate self-care kit. I always put this on my holiday with list as well so that I can easily take the perfume with me when I travel and keep the lotion close by in my purse.
Briogeo Detox, Restore + Protect! Mini Hair Care Kit I wanted to consciously support more Black owned businesses this past year and had heard rave reviews about Briogeo. After listening to an interview with founder, Nancy Twine, I was even more intrigued. This set was the perfect introduction to the brand. I liked the products so much that I want back and bought the full size versions for everyday use and a second Hair Care Kit for my travel bag. The hair mask comes in especially handy when traveling to the mountains or beach because the high altitude and salty water leaves my hair feeling especially dry and tangled.
I had fun talking beauty with you today. I hope I gave you a few ideas to make holiday gifting a bit easier. One of the things I like most about these beauty products is that they will work for a wide range of people (with the exception of the concealer) because they aren’t color specific. Would you like me to post more gift and stocking stuffer ideas in the coming weeks?
