A Visit From the Book Fairy

As a little girl I would frequently check under my pillow when I first woke up each morning. I was hopeful that the Book Fairy might have paid me a visit during the night and left a new book behind. On the occasion that I would find a book, I would immediately start reading, eager to find out what special story the Book Fairy thought I would enjoy.

Here are some ideas for when a visit from the Book Fairy would be especially welcome:

  • Your child has had a tough day or week and needs a little pick-me-up
  • You are about to take a trip and a new book would help pass the time in a car or on a plane
  • Your child has been balking at the idea of reading either together or independently
  • Your book selection feels a bit stale
  • You spot a book that you just know your child would love, but might not pick out themselves
  • Your child is an early riser and the arrival of a new book under your child’s pillow will give you a few more minutes to catch some Zzz’s after a late night.

I created this bookmark for you to print on cardstock using your home printer. Place the bookmark inside the book before leaving it under your child’s pillow.

Looking for ideas of books your child will enjoy reading? Many schools host book fairs this time of year. Often times you will find that the books are divided by grade level and teacher’s have marked their favorites. Our local library has lists of recommended books for each age group located at the front desk. I find the list usually usually prompts me to remember a few of my old favorites that I want my own children to experience. Another great resource is Common Sense Media. It provides curated lists of books based on your child’s age and interests. For example: If your child is a fan of Harry Potter you might want to check out their list of 10 Magical Reads for Kids Who Love Harry Potter. Lastly, don’t forget to ask the salesperson at your local bookstore for recommendations. They will be able to tell you what is selling like crazy or if a favorite author has a new release.

P.S. If you need any book recommendations for yourself check out this list of books I enjoyed reading in 2018.
