My Favorite Shorts- 3 Ways

Happy Thursday Friends! Summer is in full swing and I hope all of you are finding fun ways to stay cool. Have any of you been shopping the Early Access Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for cardholders? The first day of the early access sale was definitely frustrating because the website was not prepared for how many people would be shopping online. Luckily, Nordstrom rewarded cardholders’ perseverance with 10 reward points for every dollar spent to make up for the inconvenience. If you aren’t a cardholder and plan to shop once the official sale starts on Friday July 20th, check out my posts here and here for some shopping ideas. I have been so busy checking out all of the fall fashion during early access to the sale that I needed to remind myself to take a step back and enjoy all of the summer styles I have in my closet now! I thought I would share 3 ways I’ve been wearing my favorite pair of summer shorts with you today and hopefully inspire you to try some new outfit combinations using shorts in your own closet or shop for a new pair that you love as much as I love these.

A Short Story

I have a complicated relationship with shorts. I think they are an adorable summer staple, but I have the hardest time finding a pair that both fits and flatters. I struggle trying to find a pair that doesn’t gap at the waistband and still fit comfortably around my thighs. Finding a length that doesn’t shorten my legs or bunch up when I walk can also be a problem. The end result is that I have spent many summers not even owning a pair of shorts. Can any of you relate?

Found: The Perfect Shorts

My husband recently surprised me with some new clothes including a pair of shorts. My first thought when I opened the box was that there was no way a pair of shorts my hubby blindly picked out would fit after the countless hours I have spent trying on shorts only to come out of the dressing room empty handed. Imagine my surprise when I tried them on and found that they were a perfect fit!!! I have to give my husband a lot of credit. Not only did he pick out an incredibly cute pair of shorts, but he also purchased them in a small and medium so that I could determine which was the better fit. I decided to keep the size small. For reference I am a 5″4 and 140 pounds. These shorts have plenty of room and I probably could have sized down even more.

I can’t decide if I am more smitten with the embroidered eyelet detail on these shorts or the red ribbon drawstring. As soon as I saw the drawstring I knew I wanted to pair these shorts with a red t-shirt. This fiery sunset t-shirt runs true to size and is a size small. I accessorized with this everyday initial necklace that is one of my go-to pieces of jewelry. The neutral sandals I am wearing with all of the outfits are well worth the splurge and probably get more wear than any other pair of shoes in my closet. I bought mine last year and they still look brand new. The patent leather is easy to wipe off if they get dusty or dirty.

You can’t go wrong pairing shorts with a basic white tank. This tank is a wardrobe staple (you saw it in black here). It runs true to size and I am wearing a size small. I am wearing this bra. It is the racer back version of my favorite everyday bra that I talk about in this post. The racerback bra is currently  40% off. I completed the outfit with some simple bracelets. My daughter is obsessed with this brand of bracelets and gifted me with several for Mother’s Day. If you are looking for a fun, casual bracelet for yourself or need a gift for a tween or teen girl I would definitely check these out.

shorts, off the shoulder top, sandals

I decided to pair the shorts with this off the shoulder navy top for cool summer evenings. The top can be worn off of both shoulders or just one. It comes in six different colors and runs very large. I am wearing an extra small. This cozy outfit is perfect for curling up with a book. I just picked up Lauren Weisberger’s When Life Gives You Lululemons up at the local bookstore. It was the very last copy they had and the owner said it has been flying off the shelf. I loved her previous book, The Devil Wears Prada and I can’t wait to find out what the character Emily has been up to in this latest novel.

Which of these three looks is your favorite?

When I went back to the store to return the shorts that were too big, I discovered that there were several other shorts with a similar fit. I ended up getting these. They are a slimmer fit than the shorts above and the small fits perfectly.

Long Story, Short

If you have had any of the issues finding shorts that fit that I have had in the past. I would highly suggest giving these a try. I have been wearing them weekly and don’t have a single complaint. Check out my Pinterest Summer Outfits Board to see other prints that are available from these two brands. A couple of them are on sale right now. Are there any summer styles that you would like to see on the blog?
