My First Purchase of 2020: The Madewell Central Shirt
Tomorrow is officially the first day of Spring. Before the rain hit this past week it was all sunshine and seventy degree weather here in the Bay Area. I know that many of us are being asked to stick close to home during this time of personal distancing and I thought this post might be a fun way to take your mind off of the situation and talk a little spring fashion. So many of my favorite brands including Madewell, J. Crew and Everlane are offering some great online sales right now.
I made my first purchase of 2020 a couple weeks ago to herald in the new season. I was inspired by a #ootd photo one of my favorite bloggers, Dress Cori Lynn, posted on instagram a couple weeks back. She was wearing a crisp, blue striped shirt, black jeans, and a green rain coat. I took one look at the photo and realized that I owned similar pieces to what she was wearing with the exception of the striped shirt. The blue stripes were a breath of fresh air when compared to the black, gray and burgundy shades I had been wearing for the past few months. When I spotted the Central Shirt in Pompano Stripe at our local Madewell store I knew that it would be the perfect piece to help me transition into spring. It could easily layer under a cardigan or coat on an overcast morning, but the short sleeves and lightweight fabric could keep me cool once the sun came out in the afternoon.
This shirt runs a little big. I ended sizing down to an extra small so that it wouldn’t feel quite so wide on my narrow shoulders. If you prefer an oversized look I would stick with your usual size. The back of the shirt is slightly longer with a shirt tail hem. It is available in multiple solid colors and several different stripe options. Everything at Madewell is currently 25% off through the end of today!
Spring Showers Outfit
This outfit is perfect for when there is still a chill in the air and a chance of showers. I can’t stop telling everyone I know about how much I love these curvy high-rise skinny jeans in ankle length. I have never found a better fitting pair of denim. They are on sale this week for $50. The pull-on boots keep my feet cozy and my hooded water proof anorak protects me in case of rain. Can you believe I picked up this jacket before a trip to NYC in 2013 and it still feels just as current as when I first brought it home. This similar rain jacket includes all my favorite details including cinched waist and petite sizing. It is currently 30% off. My zip-top carryall has been great to tote all of my things when I am substitute teaching, traveling or have forgotten my reusable bags when out shopping! It is large enough to fit a laptop.
Mom On the Go Outfit
This next look is great for a day on the go. I’m wearing my favorite skinnies again here, but in a different wash. The white sneakers and crossbody bag are perfect for a day of sightseeing or just running around town. The crossbody bag (25% off) is just large enough for the essentials; phone, small wallet and a lip gloss. The trench coat adds a bit of sophistication to an otherwise casual vibe. This similar trench is currently on sale and offered in regular and petite sizes. It is another outer layer with staying power. I have had this particular trench for four years now. I love the fact that I can wear it cinched at the waist or with the belt tied in the back. It wears equally well with dresses, jeans or slacks. I don’t see myself having to replace this classic anytime soon.
Casual Sunny Day Outfit
This last look will take me all the way through summer. I knotted the shirt in front and traded in my full length skinnies for a pair of slim wide-leg crops (currently 25%). Mules are a great option for when you are desperately in need of a pedicure, but want your feet to be little more exposed . You could easily trade them out for a pair of sandals or wedges to make this outfit more summery.
This shirt offers countless combinations when shopping my closet. The material and button front make it great option for work or church when paired with my slim fit, cropped navy slacks. I can’t wait to try it with my white denim too!
Have you made any spring purchases yet this year? What’s on your closet wish list?
Wishing you all a happy and healthy few weeks tucked away at home. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to see here on the blog to make your days a little brighter and your life a little easier.
