Spreading Holiday Cheer
Were you one of the nearly 190 million people shopping over the Thanksgiving weekend? If so, deliveries from your online purchase should start arriving any day now. Several years ago a friend posted a photo of a basket of snacks that they put by their front door during the busy holiday season for delivery people to enjoy. I thought it was such a fantastic idea that I picked up an inexpensive, festive, cardboard bin the very next day in order to do the same thing.
In addition to delivery people, we also welcome service providers such as our pest control and yard maintenance service to grab a snack as well. I don’t always get a chance to thank them personally for their hard work due to the fact that I don’t need to be at home when they are providing their service.
We like to include a variety of beverages and prepackaged snacks to meet everyones tastes. An easy way to include children is to ask them to gather the items they think will be enjoyed most on your next trip to the grocery store. Here are the items we place in our bin:
- bottled water
- $5 Starbucks gift cards
- granola bars
- trail mix
We keep the bin on our front porch for the month of December. Each morning the kids restock the contents. Below is the printable that I attach to our bin inviting delivery and service people to take what they would like.
I am continuously looking for ways to inspire my family to remember the true meaning of the season and shift the focus to the joy of giving versus receiving. Do you have an act of kindness that has become a tradition in your family. Please share the details in a comment to help inspire the spread of even more holiday cheer.
